Why are people so different; difference breeds hate, it breeds war and disgust. Difference foments dissidence, anger, resentment. It creates pathological fear because it confounds - humans fear what we do not understand, and soon fear turns into hatred for what we cannot know, we cannot love.
Some have become stodgy with bitterness, catatonic with experience and sinewed with paranoia. Some become inebriated with weakness, taking for granted pity, compassion and attention. But as they lay their heads down at night, all the comfort the world manages is a soggy pillow in a sound-proof, air-tight room. And she is drowning, literally drowning, in a world that is vicious and ruthless to those who are meek.
She wonders if the boy she loves will ever return to the man she married. She wonders if there'd be other days where he'd treat her with patience apart from her birthday (she secretly hopes he'd make exceptions for their anniversary and Valentine's Day, but she is wistful at best). She wonders if they'd miss her if she left and although her children know they will, they can't say so much for their father.
Dear girl, God is all we have. Seek him for the world is carnate. C'est La Vie.
